By Joe Johnson

A suspect recently lost a police officer who was chasing him by driving through a residential neighborhood where the officer had to slow down for safety reasons.

The incident happened at around 4 a.m. on August 21st when the officer saw a Honda Accord without a tag and its driver hid his face as he turned from Lexington Road onto Whit Davis Road.

When the officer turned around to attempt a traffic stop the Honda sped away, returning to Lexington Road where he drove at about 100 mph before turning onto Meadow Creek Drive.

“Once we were in a residential I slowed down to 35 mph and the vehicle continued going at speeds of around 70 mph,” the officer said in his report,

“When I caught up to the vehicle it had stopped and the driver had bailed on foot in an unknown direction,” the officer added.

More police units arrived at the scene, where officers searched unsuccessfully for the suspect,
