One person was killed and another critically injured in a shooting incident Monday in the west Athens Stonehenge neighborhood.

Athens-Clarke County police responded to a reported shooting at about 5:25 p.m. and located two victims with gunshot wounds in the 300 block of Marlborough Downs Road.

One victim, a 16-year-old boy was pronounced dead at the scene, police said, and the other, a 21-year-old man, was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Lt. Shaun Barnett, public information officer for ACCPD, said the names of the victims and other details were being withheld from the public “to protect the integrity of the investigation, which he said was “very active and ongoing.”

A police incident report noted that when officers arrived at the scene, they encountered a large crowd gathered around the two victims, and two guns were located there.

Classic City News will update this story as more information becomes available.

It’s so sad. The gun violence is getting worse and it especially breaks my heart that kids are killing kids . . . one may be 21 but still . . . too young to be engaging in such. God help us all 🙏
