An armed convicted felon in possession of drugs was arrested during a recent traffic stop in Athens.
According to an Athens-Clarke County police report, a Chevrolet Camaro driven by 24-year-old Tevin Jafar Browner of Joe Carey Drive was stopped on Vine Street at about 1:15 a.m. Saturday by an officer who saw the car repeatedly failing to maintain its lane.
The car was searched after the officer smelled the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle, according to the report, which noted that police found a loaded gun, a digital scale and a “quantity of illicit narcotics.”
Browner was arrested and charged with possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, use of a firearm by a convicted felon, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.
According to Clarke County Superior Court records, Browner has had over a dozen misdemeanor and felony cases dating to 2012, and the Georgia Department of Corrections website indicates he completed a nine-month prison sentence in December 2016 for burglary and drug convictions in the county.
Browner was denied bond during a hearing before a Magistrate Court judge and was being detained at the Athens-Clarke County Jail.
