Body found in Jefferson, police chief says murder investigation underway

By Joe Johnson

A body found in Jefferson on Friday was that of a homicide victim, Jefferson Police Chief Joe Wirthman said.

The body was that of a young white male, who Wirthman said has been identified, but whose name was being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

According to the police chief, a motorist found the body at about 4 p.m. when driving on Holders Siding Road.

He said investigators determined the victim had been killed elsewhere before his body was dumped on the road that is located off the Jefferson Bypass.

Wirthman said he requested assistance in the homicide probe from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
