By Joe Johnson

A Newton County woman was killed Wednesday morning in a two-vehicle collision on the Athens Perimeter.

According to Athens-Clarke County police, 50-year-old Dianna Brown was driving a Chevrolet Tahoe on the perimeter's outer loop on the South Milledge Avenue overpass at about 7:15 a.m. when it collided with a Ford Taurus that was traveling in the same direction.

The Tahoe subsequently overturned and came to a rest on its roof, and Brown died from injuries sustained in the crash, police said.

Brown had lived in Greensboro but recently relocated to Covington, said Athens-Clarke County Coroner Sonny Wilson.

Police said that the driver of the Taurus was transported by EMS to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Authorities closed both of the outer loop's lanes to traffic until until the scene was cleared, shortly after 10:30 a.m.

The crash involved the 15th traffic fatality in the county this year.

An investigation was ongoing and police asked for anyone who may have witnessed this crash is asked to contact Officer First Class Tilley at (762) 400-7355 or via email at dustin.tilley@accgov.com.
