A woman was so frightened by her son’s drunken behavior that she jumped out of her bedroom window and ran down to street to call for help.

The incident happened iin the 300 block of Boulevard on the evening of June 5th when the woman took away a large bottle of vodka from 35-year-old Caleb Pope while he was sleeping.

She would later explain to police that her son “was not supposed to be drinking due to his prior run-ins with the law,”

Pope woke up angry that the liquor had been taken and he kicked and beat on his mother’s locked bedroom door while screaming obscenities at her.

The woman placed a chair against the door because she was afraid that Pope would break through and hurt her.

Then, “fearing for her safety, (the woman) opened the bedroom window, jumped out, and ran down the street,” police said. “She then called 911.”

When police arrived at the home they found Pope sitting in a bathroom with the light off.

He claimed to be sober and “seemed very out of it and uninterested,” the police report notes.

Pope was arrested and charged under the Georgia Family Violence Act with simple assault and criminal damage to property.

Bail was granted in the amount of $500, but it was made conditional on Pope agreeing to undergo a behavioral health assessment.

He was still listed as being in the county jail as of Wednesday morning.
