Wrong-way driver causes deadly crash on Athens Perimeter

Two people were killed and two others were critically injured early Sunday in a collision on the Athens Perimeter that was caused by someone driving on the wrong side of the divided highway.

The incident happened at around 12:30 a.m. near Tallassee Road, where the errant driver reportedly had been driving at a very high rate of speed and struck another car head-on.

The drivers of both vehicles were killed.

Firefighters extracted the victims from their vehicles and the two survivors were transported to Piedmont Athens Medical Center while they are reported to be in critical condition.
