An infant reportedly was kidnapped Friday night when someone stole the car that the 9–month-old boy was in while the vehicle was unlocked in the mother’s driveway.
Athens-Clarke County police said the incident happened at about 11:30 p.m. at the child’s home in the 100 block of Live Oak Drive.
The mother had just returned home and was allowing the child to remain seeping in its car seat while she made some trips into her home, according to police.
The car was locked with the keys inside, and the vehicle possibly was running, said Lt. Shaun Barnett, ACCPD’s public information officer.
“We think this was a car theft and the thief did not realize there was a child in the vehicle," Barnett said.
An AMBER Alert for the kidnapped child was issued at 3:46 a.m.
His name is Saint Griffin Jones, who was described by police as a light-skinned Black male with curly hair who weighed between 18 and 20 pounds, and was dressed in a white onesie.
The car was a white Nissan Altima that displayed Georgia tag CRK4471.
Anyone with information about the incident or sees the vehicle should immediately call 911.
