An Athens man was arrested this week in connection with a traffic stop two months ago that yielded drugs and an illegal gun.
The incident occurred the afternoon of May 7, when an SUV was stopped on Moreland Avenue at North Peter Street for failure to maintain lane, according to an Athens-Clarke County police report.
The officer who stopped the vehicle smelled the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle and “a drug investigation then took place,” the report noted.
Warrants were subsequently taken out for the arrest of one of the SUV’s two occupants, Taveon Rashawn Stevens, 22, of Burkland Lane on charges of possession of Schedule I and II controlled substances, possession with intent to distribute marijuana, trafficking in drugs, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.
He was taken into custody Sunday afternoon, and as of Thursday afternoon Stevens remained in custody at the county Jail in lieu of a $20,000 good security bond, according to the Clarke County Sheriff's Office.
