Arrest made in fatal Barrow County hit and run

By Joe Johnson

The Barrow County Sheriff’s Office on Friday announced an arrest had been made in a fatal hit-and-run collision early Sunday on Georgia Highway 211.

The crash was reported shortly before 7 a.m. by someone who said a white male was lying on the ground with car parts scattered on the road, according to the sheriff’s office.

The male on the ground was dead at the scene, and the sheriff identified him as 52-year-old Paul Duncan.

“After a great deal of tedious and painstaking work reviewing camera footage from local homes and businesses, law enforcement personnel were able to identify the vehicle involved and pinpoint the time of the accident, as well as obtain the vehicle’s tag number,”Sheriff Jud Smith said.

Based on the evidence, deputies on Wednesday arrested Demetric Monique Jones, 36, at her home in Monroe.

She was transported to the Barrow County Detention Center and charged with Hit and Run and Leaving the Scene of an Accident Resulting in Injuries or Death.

Smith acknowledged the assistance provided by the Winder Police Department and deputies from the Walton County Sheriff’s Office.  “A lot of time and effort went into solving this case and I am thankful to all the officers who worked so tirelessly to bring this suspect to justice,” the sheriff said.

The investigation into this case is continuing.
