Athens-Clarke County police reportedly were investigating a shooting incident late Monday afternoon on the west side of town in which at least one person was shot.
According to Lt. Shaun Barnett, ACCPD’s public information officer, the shooting occurred on Sycamore Drive at about 2:30 p.m.
“Officers are currently in the area of The Flats @235 apartments; However, I do not know exactly where the shooting took place yet.”
Barnett said that a victim was transported to the hospital, but he did not know the extent of the their injuries.
The incident generated a lot of social media chatter, including a woman posting on Facebook that two young men had been shot.
“This just happened not too long ago, so details are extremely limited right now,” Barnett said.
