Athens gang leader indicted for drug trafficking and illegal weapons

A Clarke County grand jury has indicted the purported local leader of a criminal street gang on drug trafficking charges.
Kevin Adonay Castro, 21, was charged with trafficking methamphetamine, possession with intent to distribute marijuana, cocaine, and THC, and multiple counts of possession of a firearm in the commission and a felony, and violations of the Georgia Street Gang Terrorism and Prevention Act.
When they arrested him on June 18th police described Castro as a local leader of the 18th Street gang who supervised firearms-protected drug sales.
The arrest culminated an investigation by the Athens-Clarke County Police Department Gang Unit and Northeast Georgia Regional Drug Task Force..
Warrants on file in Superior Court reveal that evidence seized from his Firewood Street residence included large quantities of drugs, an AR-15 assault rifle, a .380-caliber pistol, and a Mac-11 machine pistol with a bandanna tied around the magazine, sales.
Castro is held in pretrial detention without bail as he awaits arrraignment.
