A student was arrested at Clarke Central High School the afternoon of August 20th when found in possession of a gun on campus.

According to police, 17-year-old Joel Hurtado had been stopped from leaving to get food off campus at lunchtime because school policy forbids it.

A security guard asked for police assistance because Hurtado was becoming increasingly agitated and escalating the situation.

The guard told police that the student had been seen passing something suspicious with others inside his car. That prompted a asearch of the vehicle by the school’s principal who found in the glovebox a Glock 45 pistol that turned out to have been reported stolen.

Hurtado was arrested for possession of a firearm on school grounds and theft by receiving stolen property.

He was released on his own recognizance.
