A woman is facing aggravated assault and other charges for allegedly attacking her children’s father with a drill gun.
The power tool was equipped at the time with a drill bit that pierced one of the victim’s hands, according to police.
The. incident occurred Tuesday afternoon when 26-year-old Rockel Floyd was dropping off her children at the Morningside Drive home of their father, according to police.
She began yelling at the 29-year-old victim because she was mad about him seeing other women, police said, and while standing in the doorway with the two young children Floyd allegedly struck him in the face.
Police said that as the man retreated back into the residence Floyd followed, ignoring him telling her to leave and intentionally knocking a TV to the floor and stepping on its screen. When the altercation reached the kitchen, police said, Floyd grabbed a drill gun that was with other tools in the pantry.
She then raised up the drill gun and was striking down with it when the man put up his hands to block it, police said, and the drill’s bit pierced one of the hands.
A police officer at the scene noted that the victim was covered with blood and that there was blood throughout the residence. Fire and EMS personnel also responded to the incident, but a police report did not indicate whether the victim was transported to the hospital.
Floyd had fled with her children, and the officer noted in the report that warrants would be sought charging Floyd with aggravated assault, home invasion, two counts of third-degree child cruelty, criminal damage to property, and also with battery under the state Family Violence Act because the attack occurred in front of the children, ages 6 and 8.
