A Clarke County grand jury this week indicted an Athens man for stabbing someone in the neck last month at a westside apartment complex.

Ferris Elsworth Grady Jr., 43, of Pineview Drive was charged with aggravated assault, possession of a knife during the commission of a felony, and possession of methamphetamine, according to the indictment filed Tuesday in Superior Court.

According to an Athens-Clarke County police report, the incident happened on March 10 at University Oaks Apartments, where a 41-year-old man said that someone who accused him of stealing his shoes stabbed him in the neck.

The victim was transported by EMS to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

An investigation by officers and detectives identified the offender as Grady, who was located and arrested in a room at the nearby Country Inn & Suites hotel on Old Epps Bridge Road.

Police said they learned nothing to indicate that the victim was responsible for the theft of any shoes.

Grady continues to be held without bail at the county jail.

An arraignment date on the indictment had not been scheduled as of Friday.
