Athens man shot at Nellie B Homes

By Joe Johnson

A man reportedly was shot Thursday afternoon at Nellie B Homes in east Athens.

Officers responded to the public housing community at about 4:19 a.m. after multiple 911 calls were made regarding gunshots being fired in the 300 block of Carver Drive within Nellie B, according to Athens-Clarke County police Lt. Shaun Barnett.

While on the scene, he said, the officers learned that 20-year-old Lamarkus Craig had been driven to St. Mary's Hospital, suffering from a gunshot wound.

He had been shot in the arm and the bullet lodged in his back, according to a police incident report.

The report indicates that after hearing the gunshots a witness saw a black male with gold-tipped dreadlocks get into a gray Honda sedan and drive away.

The car displayed a Georgia tag that ended with "9230," according to the report, which indicated that the incident was partially recorded by a neighbor's Ring camera, and investigators recovered spent shell casings from the scene.

The injuries were said to be not life-threatening.

"The identity of the shooter is not known at this time," Barnett said.

This is so sad because the police ain't came to check on me or my family to say hey cat dog or nothing me and my son was downstairs when bullet hoes came through the door and My girls was upstairs when the bullet holes came through the wall. They ain't gave us no information or nothing and the people who they were shooting at know who it is.
