Athens murder suspect in custody

The man who allegedly committed murder on an Athens street corner Thursday morning has been taken into custody, according to the Athens-Clarke County Police Department.

Jamarioun Clark, 22, of Madison, was arrested Friday in Newton County for the shootingdeath of 26-year-old Anargyros Mantas at the intersection of West Broad and Pulaski streets,

He is being held at the Newton County Jail on charges of murder, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.

The police department said the arrest was the result of interagency cooperation between ACCPD, Morgan County Sheriff’s Office, Madison Police

Department, Covington Police Department, Newton County SO, FBI Safe Streets, and the GBI.
