Athens police hunting down Drive-thru bandit

The Athens-Clarke County Police Department is investigating a series of commercial burglaries in which the thief has targeted fast food restaurants by breaking in through their drive-thru windows.

The burglar has spread out his crimes, from to Burger King on Hawthorne Avenue on the west side of town to Arby’s on Barnett Shoals Road and Dunkin’ Donuts on Gaines School Road in the east.

At Burger King, for example, the criminal smashed the drive-thru window with a large rock and proceeded to loot the business of over $2,000 from cash registers and a safe.

The cost of the broken window was $1,000.

From reviewing surveillance video footage, police said that the thief appeared to be a slender black male, who dressed all in black, to include a hoodie with a white “Starland” logo.
