A University of Georgia student reported he was the victim of an armed robbery Thursday afternoon just west of downtown, Athens-Clarke County police said.

The 21-year-old victim said he was in the 300 block of South Pope Street near Waddell Street shortly after noon when he was robbed at gunpoint.

Police said the victim described the suspect as a slim black male who was in his 20’s, about six feet, one inch tall and wore dark clothing.

Officers unsuccessfully searched the area for the suspect, police said.

The robbery occurred in an area not far from UGA’s Main Campus where many students live and fraternity houses are located.

Police released this video of two people, one of whom resembled the suspect, who were walking in the area at the time of the robbery.
