Baby dies in Danielsville when locked in car for hours

A baby reportedly died Thursday afternoon after being left alone in her mother’s hot car in a Danielsville parking lot.

According to the Madison County Sheriff’s Office at about 1:30 p.m., deputies, along with Madison County EMS and the Danielsville Police Department responded to the Walgreens parking lot in Danielsville on a report of an unresponsive baby girl that its mother found in her vehicle.

According to Madison County sheriff’s Capt. Jimmy Patton, the child had been in the vehicle for a few hours while her mother was inside Walgreens, where she worked.

The mother, a Madison County resident in her late 20’s, has two young children and apparently forgot to bring her to a daycare center after having dropped off the victim’s older sibling at daycare, Patton said.

First responders measured the temperature inside the vehicle at over 100 degrees when the baby was found, Patton said.

The Sheriff’s Office is working with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation to process evidence and has been in touch with the Northern Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office, according to Patton.
