Black-footed ferrets have large appetites

Despite their relatively small body size, Black-Footed Ferrets eat large quantities of food due to their high metabolic rate.

A single ferret will often eat around 100 prairie dogs a year and supplement this dietary mainstay with mice, rats, ground squirrels, rabbits, birds, and occasionally reptiles and insects, too.
