Burglary suspect breaks ankle jumping from window of Athens apartment

A Clayton County man was recently arrested when police found him lying injured on the ground outside of a home on Sunset Drive that he allegedly burglarized,
Las Maury Smith, 36, of Riverdale, was charged with first-degree burglary, robbery, hindering a 911 call, obstruction of law enforcement, and criminal trespass/damage to property.
The incident happened on the morning of December 27th when the victim returned home and found that Smith had broken into his apartment by breaking a a window and was lying on a couch.
When the 26-year-old man called 911 Smith grabbed his scarf and pulled, then snatched the phone while he was speaking with a dispatcher.
When officers arrived at the scene they found Smith lying injured on the ground outside of the second-floor back window from which he had jumped.
EMS evaluated the suspect at the scene and determined that his ankle was broken and transported him to the hospital.
The victim explained to police that he had met Smith through Facebook Dating and had him stay overnight two days earlier.
Following his arrest, Smith was granted bail in the form of bonds totaling $4,000 , but he has yet to post them as of this morning.
