(Athens) — University Cancer & Blood Center (UCBC), a leading oncology and hematology practice for Northeast Georgia, will be hosting Life is a Picnic, a special event celebrating National Cancer Survivors Day from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, May 31 at its main Athens campus. Life is a Picnic features guest speakers, cancer program information, activities, lunch, and more.
“At UCBC, we find endless joy celebrating our patients, letting everyone know we’re here for
them before, during, and after their cancer treatment journey,” says CEO Loretta Goodson. “Life is a Picnic will give us the opportunity to do that by
bringing everyone together for an inspirational afternoon.”
UCBC invites all current and former cancer patients, as well as staff, for a complimentary picnic
lunch where guests can share stories, and fellowship with fellow survivors and caregivers. The picnic, featuring healthy menu choices, takes place in the garden area adjacent to the UCBC Comprehensive Cancer Center.
Guest speakers, including patients and providers, will share experience and insight. A booth
spotlighting UCBC’s Live Well Department allows guests to learn more about its holistic approach to cancer treatment, which includes mindfulness counseling and psychotherapy, support groups, nutritional counseling, pain management, and more led by a physician, advanced practice providers, and licensed clinical social workers.
Cancer survivors are welcome to add their own touch to an interactive art project, while kids can enjoy face painting and art activities all their own.
“We designed this event to honor each individual’s journey and commend the resilience of our survivor community,” Goodson explains.“While we’re grateful for the privilege to provide services, resources, and treatment for those facing cancer, it’s the patients who are the true heroes.
