A man who police called a convicted felon was arrested Wednesday night for allegedly shooting at a building at Rolling Ridge Apartments off Kathwood Drive, Athens-Clarke County police said.

According to police, officers responded to the complex at about 9:03 p.m. on a report of a gun being fired near the 100 block of Rolling Ridge Drive.

Officers interviewed several witnesses who stated that a domestic dispute had taken place between a man and woman, according to police.

Some of the neighbors who were intervened said they intervened to deescalate the dispute, at which time the male drove away, according to police.

The man, identified by police as 37-year-old Christopher Brian Swain, later returned to Rolling Ridge and fired a gun multiple times towards the apartment building and drove away.

No one was injured, police said.

Witnesses provided a description of the shooter and his car and during an investigation that continued into early Thursday morning, police said officers saw Swain leaving a home in the 6200 block of Old Jefferson Road.

Swain was booked into jail with an address of 6230 Old Jefferson Road.

Officers conducted a traffic stop and arrested Swain on two counts each of aggravated assault, reckless conduct, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, second-degree criminal damage to property and criminal trespass/damage to property.

Though police called Swain a convicted felon, no records of felony convictions could be located in Clarke County Superior Court records or on the state Department of Corrections website.

Police asked that anyone with information about the incident to contact Detective Mike Carroll at (706) 613-3330, ext. 292 or michael.carroll@accgov.com.
