Traffic heading into Athens on Jefferson Road early Wednesday morning was interrupted when diverted around a disabled tractor-trailer truck that blocked southbound lanes in the area of Whitehead Road.

A Nixle alert was issued at 6:47 a.m. and Athens-Clarke County police said officers cleared the scene at 8:30 a.m.

"An 18-wheeler was stuck on the (railroad) tracks this morning," ACCPD spokesman Geof Gilland said. "CSX was advised and a local wrecker pulled the vehicle off the tracks."

Pretend you are in the insurance business. How do you insure a twelve tank oil farm that loads over 100 tankers a day. These tankers head out to the Jefferson Rd which is undivided and four lanes. Almost every tanker want to turn left to get to the Athens loop. But first, they must cross a set of railroad tracks where they idle literally on the tracks looking for a traffic gap because there is no traffic light. I'm retired. Not my problem.
