Woman indicted for drowning assault victim

An Athens-Clarke County grand jury has indicted a

woman for an assault last year in which she drowned the victim.

Brittany Danielle Downer, 38, of Rolling Ridge Drive, was charged with aggravated assault, criminal trespass, burglary and family violence battery, according to the indictment filed Tuesday in Superior Court,

The charges stem from an incident that occurred in July 2024 at University Oaks apartments when Downer attacked 35-year-old Cierral Norkika Moore, with whom she formerly lived.

According to the indictment and arrest warrant, after forcing her way into the apartment, Downer punched Moore in the face and used both hands to hold the other woman’s head under water.

Following her arrest, Downer spent several days in jail before being granted bail on condition she have no contact with Moore.

Her arraignment was not immediately scheduled.
