Motorist killed on Buddy Christian Way

An Athens man reportedly was killed Saturday in a single-vehicle crash on Buddy Christian Way.

According to the Athens-Clarke County Police Department, 28-year-old Kenry Monterola was driving a 2018 Toyota Camry at about 12:25 p.m. when he lost control of the vehicle around a curve near the Athens Regional Police Academy.

Police said the car crossed over the center line into oncoming traffic and left the roadway and crashed into several trees.

Athens-Clarke County Fire and Emergency Services and EMS crews extricated the driver from the vehicle, police said, and Monterola was transported to the hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
