The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has concluded its investigations into the deaths of twin brothers from Gwinnett County.
The bodies of 19-year-old Qaadir and Naazir Lewis were found in March at the top of Bell Mountain.
The GBI has now ruled the case a suicide-suicide following an in-depth inquiry and autopsy results. Relatives had assumed the teens were visiting friends in Boston at the time.
Family members revealed that the day before the brothers were found they learn that Qaadir and Naazir booked a 7 a.m. trip to Boston, and plane tickets were found in their wallets.
However, the GBI said that cell data helped it create a timeline of the twins’ location from their home in Lawrenceville to Bell Mountain, some 90 miles away.
“In the video that corresponds to those locations, the Lewis brothers are seen alone,” the GBI said in a news release.
It added that on the day of the trip, only Naazir went to the airport. “Records show Naazir is the only person that had an airline ticket,” the GBI said.
It stated that its investigations show that Naazir also bought ammo that was used in the gun. The ammo was delivered to the boys’ home on March 5, three days before their bodies were found on Bell Mountain. Their phone’s internet history also showed searches for things like how to load a gun and 2024 suicide statistics.
“Forensic evidence showed that the Lewis brothers fired a gun,” and their fatal injuries were self-inflicted, the news release stated.
