GBI taps Jesse Maddox to head Athens field office

Athens, GA (June 19, 2019) – The Georgia Bureau of Investigation announces the promotion of Jesse Maddox as Special Agent in Charge of the GBI Region 11 Field Office in Athens, GA. SAC Maddox will be responsible for the supervision of the Special Agents assigned to Region 11. The Region 11 office covers eleven metro Northeast GA counties. Region 11 conducts major investigations to include as use of force investigations, homicide, aggravated assault, rape, child abuse, armed robbery, fraud, and other felonies.

SAC Maddox began his career with the GBI in 1998, assigned to the State Health Care Fraud Control Unit. He later had an assignment as a Special Agent at Region 11. In 2007, SAC Maddox was promoted to the rank of Assistant Special Agent in Charge at the Cleveland Field Office. In 2008, Maddox was transferred to the Atlanta Field Office and then in 2016, he returned to the Athens Field Office as ASAC.

SAC Maddox served as a member of the Counter Terrorism Task Force from 2002 to 2010. He began his law enforcement career with the Athens-Clarke County Police Department in 1997.

SAC Maddox graduated from the University of Georgia with a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice in 1996 and received his Master of Public Administration degree from Columbus State University in 2012. SAC Maddox has been a P.O.S.T. certified instructor since 2003 and is a graduate of the Georgia Law Enforcement Command College at Columbus State University.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is comprised of three divisions: the Georgia Crime Information Center, the Crime Laboratory, and the Investigative Division. The agency has over 830 employees and a budget of $101 million. SAC Maddox is assigned to the Investigative Division.
