A pedestrian was critically injured near a westside intersection Monday night when struck by a vehicle that left the scene.
According to police, the incident happened shortly after 7:30 p.m. at the intersection of West Broad Street and Alps Road and the victim, a 27-year-old Crawfordville man, was transported in critical condition to Piedmont Athens Medical Center.
The Athens-Clarke County Police Department asked for anyone who witnessed the incident or has information about it to contact Master Police Officer Shawn Denmark at 762-400-7364 or shawndenmark@accgov.com
Pretty sure this is the intersection that has a license plate camera for ticketing. Shouldn't be too hard to figure out whose car struck the pedestrian.
Nothing on ABH, as usual ! Poor excuse of a local newspaper of what they used to do/cover 10-20 years ago ! So many things you never hear about.. When you have a crime, show their pictures. One great example of a newspaper coming back from closing and being even better is the Oglethorpe Echo. Most of their reporters are UGA students and are doing a beautiful job !
It’s time for the state to up the punishment for hit and run. Too many people are willing to take the chance to avoid responsibility for their actions. Judges should refuse to accept plea agreements that allow lesser penalties. If faced with serious hard time and aggressive enforcement of the law it will make make some of these irresponsible parasites in our society think twice before leaving the scene. Twenty years on a chain gang would be a tough pill to swallow.
Hopefully the pedestrian will have a full recovery. This happened on Wednesday ? Why did it take so long to report this incident ?
I hope the driver is caught and punished to fullest extent possible.
