By Joe Johnson

Athens-Clarke Couty police are investigating a case of a man who was beaten unconscious and robbed this week as he walked home from a bar in downtown Athens.

According to a police incident report, the 21-year-old victim began walking to his home on Hillcrest Avenue from the 1785 Bar & Grill on East Clayton Street at about midnight Monday and woke up later that morning at Piedmont Athens Regional Medical Center with a black eye and busted lip.

He was missing his phone, wallet, watch and bracelet, according to the report.

The police Central Communications Division found an EMS call in which medics picked up an unconscious male fitting the victim’s description on North Chase Street at about 2 a.m., the police report noted.

The victim told police he tracked his phone to an address on Zebulon Drive, according to the report.

Detectives were notified of the incident and were investigating.
