An Athens man was recently indicted for allegedlyshooting another man as the victim played cards at the Clarke Gardens public housing complex five months ago.
Dwight Donterrius Brown, 34, of Collins Avenue was charged with aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, according to a grand jury indictment that was filed Feb. 11 in Clarke County Superior Court.
An Athens-Clarke County police report indicates the incident occurred early the evening of Sept. 30 when the 27-year-old victim was playing cards on the trunk of a car that was parked on Carriage Court when shots were fired from the area of the playground.
The victim was struck by a bullet in the leg and the side of the car was also struck by gunfire, according to police.
The victim’s injuries were not life-threatening, according to police.
While inspecting the area from where the shots were fired, officers received information that the shooter went by “Baldy,” a nickname that an officer recognized to beBrown’s, according to police.
Brown was arrested the day of the incident and on Oct. 30 Western Judicial Circuit Judge H. Patrick Haggard denied Brown’s request for bond, on the grounds he would pose a risk to the community.
An arraignment date had not been scheduled as of Tuesday.
