A person was found deceased Saturday night in car that went up in flames that spread to a nearby residence.

According to the Athens-Clarke County Department of Fire and Emergency Services, firefighters were dispatched to vehicle fire on Danielsville Road at 10:52 p.m., and upon arrival minutes later they found a vehicle that was engulfed in flames that had spread to a dwelling nearby.

"There was apparent fire spread to the home with visible flames showing from the residence," the ACCDFES said in media release issued Sunday. "The first arriving crew quickly deployed hose lines to bring the fire under control and prevent further damage. Crews were assigned to search the home for victims and extinguish the fire that had extended into the home. After extinguishment, firefighters located a deceased person in the vehicle."

Three fire engines, a ladder truck, a rescue unit and 19 firefighters reportedly responded to the incident to quickly bring it under control.

Investigators from the Athens-Clarke County Fire & Emergency Services Department and Athens-Clarke County Police Department were called to investigate the incident. "Investigators believe the fire to have originated in the vehicle and have no evidence of foul play at this time. The deceased person was transported to the GBI Crime Lab for cause of death and positive identification," the media release stated.

County Coroner Sonny Wilson said the fire occurred at 2345 Danielsville Road and that the unidentified black male victim did not reside there.
