Employee robbed while working in Athens Walmart

By Joe Johnson

An employee at Walmart on Lexington Road was robbed early Monday morning as she was removing cash from a self-checkout terminal, Athens Clarke County police said.

The incident happened at about 12:30 a.m. at a self-checkout terminal at the grocery side of the store, according to police.

As the employee was removing cash from the machine, a black male wearing dark clothing snatched $629 from the employee and exited through the front door, where he was picked up by a second suspect who was driving what appeared to be a silver Kia Soul, police said.

The car exited the parking lot on the side where a Hardee’s is located, police said.
