A man was shot late Thursday afternoon while walking along a roadway in northern Athens.
According to Athens-Clarke County police Capt. Christopher Nichols, the victim was walking north in the grass along Danielsville Road between the El Primo Auto Sales and Martha's Cabins mobile home park when a car pulled up and an occupant opened fire on him.
The victim reportedly was struck multiple times and was transported to a local hospital with injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening.
The incident was reported to police at 3:28 p.m., Nichols said.
Nichols said the victim gave an initial statement at the scene and a detective went to the hospital to get additional information from him.
The officer said he did not know the victim's name or where he lived.
