Mystery on Monday still surrounded the death of a woman whose body was found the day before in a house in the Barrow County city of Statham.
The body was found in a home at 88 Goldshore Way after a neighbor reported seeing a trail of blood that led from the driveway to the home’s front door. When Barrow County deputies arrived, they realized that some of the blood was in the shape of a human foot, according to the sheriff’ office.
The deputies made forced entry to the home and found the deceased female after they looked through a window and observed more blood inside the residence.
On Monday, Barrow County Sheriff Jud Smith said it remained unclear how the woman died.
“We do believe a domestic dispute occurred, however we cannot determine at this time if the female died at the hands of another person until we get more details from the GBI,” Smith said.
The woman, who officials have not yet identified was undergoing an autopsy at the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s State Crime Lab, according to Smith.
“We do know she received injuries at the scene outside the home due to the blood in the street and in the home but again those injuries will have to be analyzed by the GBI at the autopsy.
“We should have preliminary results of the autopsy late this week but no confirmation for several weeks,” the sheriff added.
The death occurred in an unfinished new subdivision located off of Providence Road and behind Bear Creek Middle School.
