A pedestrian was seriously injured Monday morning by a hit-and run driver on Lexington Road, Athens-Clarke County police said.
According to police Lt. Shaun Barnett, a 30-year-old man with a Monroe address was found at about 7:30 a.m. in a ditch on the side of the road approximately 150 feet east of Indiana Avenue.
“It is not yet known what time the accident occurred or how long he was there before we received the call,” Barnett said.
Barnett, who is ACCPD’s public information officer, said that the victim was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
“The injuries to the pedestrian were described as a serious injury to the right leg and several facial injuries,” Barnett said.
He said that police did not have a description of the vehicle.
The incident was being investigated by the police department's Traffic Unit.
