Police identify Athens homicide victim, announce reward for shooter

Athens-Clarke County police have identified the man who was fatally shot Tuesday night at Rolling Ridge Apartments as 27-year-old Quamiek Malik Aziz.

Clarke County Coroner said Aziz was a resident of the complex that is located off of Kathwood Drive, near Newton Bridge Road.

According to a police news release that was issued Wednesday morning, Aziz was shot at about 8:39 p.m. the night before.

Officers were in the area for an unrelated matter when they heard two gunshots. Upon hearing the shots, an officer ran in the direction of the gunfire, police said, and when the officer reached the scene inside a breezeway of Building 7, he found Aziz with a bullet wound to his head.

The victim was transported to a local hospital where he died, according to the news release.

Police announced that a Crime Stoppers cash reward was being offered for information leading to the identification and arrest of the shooter.
