Athens-Clarke County police said they were looking for someone who allegedly shot a man last week at an eastside trailer park.
According to police, 36-year-old Hickman Drive resident LaWayne Andreas Banks was shot in the leg at the Hallmark Estates trailer park Friday night during an altercation with a man who went by the alias “Red,” according to a police report of the incident.
Police subsequently identified the suspect as Henry Greg Thomas, 32, of Lot 97 at Hallmark Estates, and they obtained warrants charging Thomas with aggravated assault and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
According to Capt. Christopher Nichols, the shooting stemmed from a dispute over a female.
"Banks learned that a female friend was with another male and went to Hallmark to confront the people," he said. "Banks got into a confrontation with the male half and other persons, to include Thomas. Banks left, but decided to return to confront the female and the male again. Another argument ensued, which turned into a physical altercation, ultimately resulting in Thomas shooting Banks."
Police asked that anyone with knowledge of Thomas’ whereabouts contact Lt. David Norris at (762) 400-7165.
