Two Fires within an hour in Barrow County

By Joe Johnson

At approximately 3:20 p.m. Wednesday Barrow County Emergency Services received a 911 call reporting a fire in the 700 block of Hancock Bridge Road. Firefighters responded to find a chicken house heavily involved in fire. “The barn was off the roadway and our firefighters could not get the fire engines up to the scene,” Captain Scott Dakin said. “They had to pull hose and connect them in order to have enough to reach the fire.”

The barn was heavily damaged by the fire. Firefighters worked quickly to stop the fire from spreading from the barn. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the department’s Fire Marshal Office. One donkey died as a result of this fire.

About an hour later BCES received another 911 call reporting a fire in the 400 block of Blueberry Lane. Firefighters were dispatched to the incident and found a home heavily involved in fire. “A rapid search was conducted in the home by first arriving firefighters and no victims were found,” Dakin said. “Crews then worked to quickly extinguish the fire.”

Two adults were displaced as the result of this fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Fire Marshal Office and the Barrow County Sheriff Office.
