Winterville woman killed in Athens collision

By Joe Johnson

A 71-year-old Winterville woman was killed Saturday in a two-car collision in Athens.

According to Sgt. First Class Tim Myer, commanding officer of Georgia State Patrol Post 32 in Athens, Nancy Williams was a passenger in a Ford Escape that was being driven by Danielle Williams, 43, also of Winterville west on Beaverdam Road shortly after 1 p.m. when it collided head-on with a Chrysler 200 being driven east by 41-year-old James Blackmon of Athens.

The elder Williams died, he said, and all occupants of both vehicles were transported to Piedmont Athens Regional Hospital for treatment.

“This is an on-going investigation and (Specialized Reconstruction Team B) was requested to assist," he said. SRCT B is one of GSP's units that specializes in fatal accident investigations.

“Troopers expect to file charges once fault is established,” Myer said.
