Woman robbed at gunpoint east of downtown Athens

By Joe Johnson

A 45-year-old woman reported she was robbed at gunpoint Sunday night as she was walking to her home east of downtown Athens, according to an Athens-Clarke County police report.

The Willow Street resident said she was returning from a walk at about 7:45 p.m. when, in the area of Willow Street and College Avenue, she was approached by a black male who pointed a gun at her and demanded her purse, according to the report.

The report noted that the victim “relinquished her fanny pack to the suspect, at which point she fled on Willow Street, away from the suspect.”

She believed that the suspect ran on College Avenue, toward downtown, according to the police incident report.

The fanny pack contained $10 cask and an Apple iPhone Plus 8 valued at $500, the report noted.

Detectives and a K-9 unit responded to the scene and the investigation was turned over to them, an officer wrote in the report.

A detailed description of the suspect was not mentioned in the report.
