Kemp orders Ga. schools to remain closed through March




Gov. Brian Kemp has ordered the closure of all public elementary, secondary and post-secondary schools in Georgia through March 31, 2020.

During the period of school closure, the Clarke County School District will continue to work to offer free meals to students. Currently, a drive-thru option is available weekdays at Oglethorpe Avenue Elementary and Hilsman Middle from 8 a.m. to noon, and deliveries made to select communities via school bus routes. Details are available on the district websyte www.clarke.k12.ga.us. District student support staff, including counselors, social workers, nurses, and psychologists, are available to parents/guardians for phone and/or email consultation. Contact information for support staff is located on individual school websites. In addition, medical resources are available to students and staff. The Hilsman Health Center, located at Hilsman Middle School, will be open to serve all CCSD students and staff and school nursing staff available via phone and email to answer questions from parents/guardians. Details are available on the district website at www.clarke.k12.ga.us. School principals will communicate directly to parents/guardians regarding distance learning plans for students. Updates will be provided through the district’s parent portal, website at www.clarke.k12.ga.us, and through social media platforms.

We are working to provide support to students and families in a number of ways, including meal service, health support, and access to medical services," CCSD Communications Manager Beth Moore said on Tuesday.

"The district website will continually be updated with resources supplied by the district as well as those offered in our community," she said, "Many parents/guardians have reached out asking if there is a mechanism to donate money to support students and/or volunteer. If we need to request volunteers, we will do so via our website/social media platforms. Moore said that the meal service program willbe updated on Wednesday, as the school district makes changes to routes and procedures based on its first day of operation on Tuesday.
