Man’s body found in east Athens identified

By Joe Johnson

A man whose body was found a week ago in a wooded area off North Avenue in east Athens has been identified as a 62-year homeless man.

Timothy Scott Brown had been dead for at least a month when he was found June 2 in a wooded area off North Avenue, between the Georgia Division of Family Services and Advanced Auto Parts.

Authorities were unable to immediately identify the body due to advanced decomposition.

It was identified as Brown’s on Wednesday at the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s laboratory in Decatur, where forensic pathologists are trying to determine a cause of death.

Brown had no known ties to the Athens community and his last known address had been in Eatonton.
