Morton Theatre Corp. & HEART Music present “SHINE! Celebrating Our Youth Through Inclusive Concert”

The Morton Theatre Corporation (MTC), in collaboration with HEART Music, is thrilled to announce "SHINE! Celebrating Our Youth Through an Inclusive Concert." This special event will showcase the brightest young talents from the Clarke County School District's band, orchestra, and guitar programs.

The musical performances will take place at 4 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 26 at the historic Morton Theatre in downtown Athens (195 W. Washington Street). Natalie Smith, founder and executive director of HEART Music, said the concert will be "a wonderful opportunity for students not only to gain experience performing outside of their regular school concerts, but also to perform in a beautiful, historic facility run professionally with the details of a fine production.”

The concert is a celebration of diversity and talent, featuring a repertoire composed primarily by Black composers. The program will also include the debut of a new work by celebrated Atlanta artist Nicole Chamberlain.

Kimberly Davis, a longtime member of the MTC board of directors, said the concert is part of the corporation’s commitment to Athens youth. “We want to see our young people experience all that Athens has to offer,” she said. “That includes taking the same stage as legends such as Duke Ellington and Bessie Smith, and contemporary artists like Tituss Burgess and Calvin Orlando Smith. It’s their time to shine.”

MTC and HEART extend their deepest gratitude to the Georgia Council for the Arts for their grant support and to Heyward Allen Toyota for their generous contribution. "This collaboration underscores our commitment to fostering an environment where the arts can flourish and be accessible to all," Davis said.

Don't miss this opportunity to witness the blossoming talent within our community and to be part of an unforgettable evening of music and inclusivity. This is a free, ticketed event, with a suggested donation of $10 for adults and $5 for students. Secure your seats by calling the Morton Theatre Box Office at 706.613.3771 or by visiting mortontheatre.com. For more information, please email board@mortontheatre.com.
