A 70-year-old Athens woman’s face was scratched when she was slapped by another mourner during a recent funeral service.
The incident happened the afternoon of June 14th in the Gardenview Funeral Chapel on Olympic
Drive.
According to police, two female relatives of the deceased got into an argument that escalated into slaps being exchanged.
The victim told police that the other woman landed the first blow to the side of her face that caused the scratch and knocked off an earring.
The alleged antagonist had been upset about “some family drama,” according to police.
That woman was not available to be interviewed, police said, because she had already left with the funeral procession to the burial site.
