Occupied home in Athens targeted by gunfire

By Joe Johnson

Several people Monday night reportedly dove to the floor for cover when bullets tore through a home in a northside neighborhood.

According to the Athens-Clarke County Police Department, the incident happened at about 10:30 p.m. in the 300 block of Old Commerce Road, where gunfire struck windows, a TV, a couch, but luckily none of the people there.

Officers recovered six shell casings from high-velocity rifle rounds and one .45-caliber bullet casing, police said.

A 20-year-old victim who was visiting at the residence told police that the shooters might have been two guys who a couple days earlier showed up at her job at McDonald's on Gaines School Road and pointed guns at her before driving away.

The young woman told police that she did not know their real names, and also that they knew where she lived in another part of town.

We do not need more money for this problems. We need to elect a new District Attorney who cares about crime and its impact on our citizens.

It’s really funny you think imprisoning people lowers crime. It’s quite the opposite actually.

Yes, more tax payer money to help people living in poverty that rely on crime to get by. I can finally agree with you on somethin!
