Two burglars were caughtred-handed red handed inside a building that they broke into last week.
According to the Athens-Clarke Police Department, the owner of a storage building in the 6000 block of Jefferson Road called 911 at 10:44 a.m. Friday to report that he saw on security cameras that there were intruders inside his property.
Responding officers located inside the building 48-year-old Jason Robert Mills and 58-year-old Kenneth Edwin Gravitt, both of Athens, police said.
Officers found cut copper wire and cutting tools in the building, according to police Lt. Jody Thompson.
Both suspects were charged with second degree burglary and criminal trespass.
As of Monday afternoon, they were being detained without bail at the county jail.
I take solace in knowing that this was not a violent crime. These two fools need to be punished, but let's not lump them with the really bad guys in our town.
As I own a storage facility I'm quite interested in this. We've also had some burglars, caught them, retrieved the property, and they're in Oglethorpe jail. We also have cameras and other security monitors on site. Some people would steal the paint off of your car if they could figure a way to peel it off.
Copper heads. They got bit this time. Excellent!
I drove by this building twice on Friday and wondered what was going on. 7 or 8 police officers had surrounded the building. It appeared that these thieves had locked themselves in and were “hiding.” Cowards as well as thieves.
Jefferson Road.
Now THERE’S a quality street occupied by quality people!!!
