A pedestrian was killed Wednesday night when she was struck by a vehicle on Atlanta Highway.
According to police, 44-year-old Cleo Catherine Wallace was walking eastbound in the left lane of
Atlanta Highway in front of Strickland's Restaurant when she was struck by an eastbound 1999 Honda being driven by 20-year-old Jesus Marin Villarreal.
Wallace was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Athens-Clarke County Police Department indicated that no charges have been filed, but the incident continued to be investigated.
The department said in a news release that investigators would like to talk to the driver of a white pickup truck that passed Wallace prior to her being struck.

Police noted the incident involved the 20th traffic fatality in 2023.
Stop. Look. Listen. If a car is coming, the car has the right of way. Let the car(s) pass before entering the roadway. Walk, don't run.
Do not step out in front of a car; they might hit you.
