Police department reports results of Athens vehicle checkpoint

From the Athens-Clarke County Police Department:

On October 18, 2024, the Athens-Clarke County Police Department hosted the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety (GOHS) Piedmont Area Traffic Enforcement Network (PATEN) meeting. After the meeting, a multi-jurisdictional vehicle checkpoint was conducted within Athens-Clarke County to ensure safe driving. Multiple outside agencies, including Oglethorpe County Sheriff’s Office, Barrow County Sheriff’s Office, Clarke County Sheriff’s Office, and the Department of Public Health, assisted in the checkpoints. This checkpoint was aggressively advertised on social media and experienced a lot of publicity.

DR MLK JR PKWY @ Second St.: 1945-2130 (1 Hour 45 Minutes) – 300 Vehicles Checked Contacts:

1 – Expired License Violation 2 – Seatbelt Violations

4 – Registration Violations

1 – Distracted Driving Violation 1 – No Valid Insurance

2 – Other

1 - DUI – Alcohol\No Valid License

GA-10 Inner Loop Exit Ramp @ College Station Rd. – 2215-0000 (1 Hour 45 minutes) – 171 Vehicles Checked

Of course not silly. They are generally students, so they cart them off in the pattywagon to sober up in the clink.
